Travel Review: things to Do in MALAYSIA

I visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the end of December 2025, with no rush and no strict plans — just a quiet curiosity to see how the city truly lives. Through early morning walks, shared local meals, and slow afternoons exploring Chinatown Kuala Lumpur, the city revealed itself as a place where cultures blend naturally and everyday moments feel meaningful.

In this post, I share simple and authentic things to do in Kuala Lumpur — experiences that helped me understand the city beyond its famous skyline and into its everyday rhythm.

First in the list, visit China Town - Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur

First on my list was Chinatown – Petaling Street, and it felt like the perfect place to begin exploring Kuala Lumpur. The streets were lively but not overwhelming — filled with food stalls, old shop houses, and the soft mix of languages and cultures that KL is known for.

I spent time walking slowly, tasting local snacks, and watching daily life unfold around me. Between traditional Chinese signs, nearby temples, and small cafés tucked behind old doors, Chinatown felt both historic and very alive. It’s the kind of place where you don’t need a plan — just curiosity and time.

Food - i can not miss out in China Town

One of the most memorable dishes I tried in Chinatown was the seafood spaghetti at Leaf & Co. It wasn’t something I expected to find here, but that’s part of what made it special. The pasta was comforting and well-balanced, with fresh seafood and a light sauce that didn’t overpower the flavors.

Spicy, creamy, and brimming with seafood, this buttermilk pasta felt like pure comfort on a plate. Every bite was rich and indulgent, the kind of dish you wish would never end. 🍤🍝🧈

🛒 Bukit Bintang

In the center of Kuala Lumpur lies Bukit Bintang — a district that never really sleeps. It’s where the city feels most alive, blending shopping, food, and nightlife into one vibrant experience. By day, Bukit Bintang is a shopper’s playground. From the polished luxury of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to the more local and eclectic vibe of Lot 10, there’s something for every mood and budget. Clean lines, glass facades, and curated storefronts make it just as photogenic as it is functional.

As evening falls, the energy shifts. The streets light up, music spills out of cafés, and the area transforms into a social hub. Just a short walk away, Jalan Alor comes alive with sizzling street food, offering everything from grilled seafood to local Malaysian favorites — a sensory overload in the best way.

What makes Bukit Bintang special isn’t just what you can do, but how it feels. It’s fast-paced yet effortless, modern yet full of character. Whether you’re here for a quick coffee, a shopping spree, or a night out, Bukit Bintang captures the rhythm of Kuala Lumpur in one place.

A getaway from Kuala Lumpur → Genting Highlands

A getaway from Kuala Lumpur → Genting Highlands is one of the easiest and most popular mini trips — super doable even as a half-day or overnight escape. We drove from Kuala Lumpur to Genting Highlands after having breakfast at a Chinese restaurant in the city. It took us a little over an hour to get there.

In complete contrast to Kuala Lumpur, Genting sits high in the mountains, offering a fresh atmosphere and cooler weather — the perfect escape for a day. Inside the hotel, there’s a complete complex offering everything from shopping and restaurants to entertainment and gaming, all in one place. The casino is especially unique — whether you’re there to gamble or simply out of curiosity, it adds to the overall experience.

Because of this, the whole family can enjoy a short getaway for a few days without needing to go anywhere else — everything you need is right there.
